Households containing at least one foreign national received £11.920bn in Universal Credit last year, new research by the Centre for Migration Control can reveal. That is a 25% increase on the £9.533bn paid out in 2024, and a 57% increase on the £7.6bn that was reportedly paid out in 2023. In December 2025, £1.021bn was awarded to foreign national households - equivalent to £32.9m every day or £230.5m a week. A total of £7.669bn was paid in Universal Credit to foreign national households where an individual was not-in work. This is equivalent to the total income tax and national insurance paid by 1,036,000 British resident full-time workers.
Read moreBetween the start of 2022 and the end of 2025, there were 1,443 suspension notices issued to businesses on the register of sponsors, and who had awarded at least one CoS to a care worker or senior care worker. 1,049 businesses had their licence revoked in the same period, with a total of 1,297 businesses receiving at least one sanction, and many receiving several. Between them, these sanctioned businesses awarded at least 99,686 certificates of sponsorship for roles with the SOC codes 6145 (care workers) and 6146 (senior care workers). There were 345 businesses sanctioned during this time period that had awarded 100 or more certificates of sponsorship.
